P.S. Arts / Crossroads Foundation
-
P.S. Arts provides Beethoven students with
special performing and visual arts classes. All students enjoy music and art
classes. In addition, teachers use the Orff method to both capture
student interest and teach musical theory and appreciation. Our instrument
group has performed for audiences with rave reviews.
Field Trips
-
Beethoven is very fortunate. Our students
participate in a variety of field trips that support our core curriculum.
Some places they will visit include 826LA for writing and making books; the
Los Angeles County Fair; for vocabulary that relates to our reading program
as well as to learn about animal life; Ocean View Farms, a community garden;
Downtown Central Library, which is an historic landmark; and others. The
trips will enrich our students’ vocabulary and writing skills. Many of our
trips are sponsored by our parent support group, Friends of Beethoven
Wonder of Reading Library
-
This non-profit organization works with
public schools to bring three "R's" to selected schools; renovate, restock
(children's books), and read. Our new library opened on November 2, 2002.
Volunteers read with the students one hour weekly. The library is staffed
daily by our library aide and volunteers. About $35,000 have been dedicated
to support our instructional program. A neighborhood beautification program
grant from the city of Los Angeles has made possible the creation of a clay
mosaic by the main entrance in front of the new library and a lovely outdoor
reading area.
